Overview

Vend was founded almost 9 years ago in the distant New Zealand. Since then, it has become scalable to companies of all sizes. This reliable solution is fully cloud-based, so you can still run your company even if you lose Internet access.

Ever since its launch, this POS system has been staying on top of current trends. It is one of the most user-friendly POS systems available.

This company is always making changes to its product, which are predominantly positive.

Front-end features are remarkably intuitive, while any users would be delighted by the rich back-end features. Moreover, the system is affordably priced.

The company has a remarkable inventory management system, an omni-channel sales approach with both in-store and online capabilities, an extensive list of integrations with third-party software, and an overall well-rounded retail management solution.

Vend is a market leader with clients in almost 150 countries and over 20,000 installations.

Quick Keys and Sale Notes

On Vend’s front end, you can save quick keys as templates to speed up your checkout. It’s also simple to add quick sale notes to a transaction with discounts or instructions directly. Discounts are divided and distributed to an entire sale or an individual product at lightning speed. What is more, you can customize receipts with your own logo.

Credit Card Processing in the US

In-store credit card processing is supported in the United States via Vantiv, PayPal, and Square. Other compatible processors are Stripe, Payment Express, and Authorize.Net. Basically, you can integrate with any processor you want on your web store. The POS is designed to accept Apple Pay and other NFC payments and is EMV-enabled.

Credit Card Processing outside the US

UK merchants can choose from iZettle, PayPal, and Payment Express. Canadian merchants can use Moneris Solutions. Merchants in European countries other than the UK can choose between iZettle and Payment Express. Australians have got Tyro and PayPal. Finally, Smartpay is reserved for New Zealand. iZettle can be used everywhere else in the world.

You can also use Vend without integrated payments – simply process the sale manually with the swipe of a credit card.

Add-Ons and Integrations

Vend offers many integrations with third-party software programs, such as Perkville, Shopify, and Timely among others. Below is some info about these.

Perkville

Merchants who register with Perkville can create special coupons for referrals to their friends and family or create an online rewards program for their customers. Integration with Vend makes it possible to transfer and sync customer lists between the two systems.

Addtional Add Ons

Timely

Finally, this software program makes it possible to set up appointments with clients for the various products or services your establishment offers. You can sync your services, products, and customers with Timely, then take appointments back to Vend for the system to ring them up as sales.

Shopify Integration

This program syncs in-store and online inventory. As a result, inventory is automatically updated in both systems no matter whether a purchase was done on location or online. Shopify automatically reflects any product changes you make in Vend (to the price or an item description).

Loyalty Program

Users can create and send an automatic email to new clients when you enable the Loyalty program. This email includes a personalized link to a Customer Portal where customers can get a loyalty bonus in exchange for their full contact info.

This makes it quicker and easier to add customers at the time of sale. If you give clients an incentive to keep visiting your establishment, you’re ahead of the competition. Money spent earns rewards in Vend’s model.

The business manager decides how much a customer has to spend before they start to earn bonuses in Loyalty rewards. The default setting is a dollar earned for every 50 dollars spent, but it can be changed. Customers can use all dollars earned on their next purchase.

You don’t need to reach a minimum amount of points to start saving. It is possible to view the balance from the payment screen at the time of checkout.

Features

Customer Management

Vend can maintains a contact list of all your customers. You can create the list by mass importing from a CSV file or adding each name one by one via the web console.

The fields you want for your customer list can be customized with details of your choice like address, phone number, email address, website, customer group, Facebook account, and Twitter ID.

eCommerce

eCommerce is only available in the top two plans, which do not entail an extra charge for it. The system offers design help through a selection of Responsive Themes, hosting, the option to tie in your own domain name and live sync with your in-store inventory, and an integrated website builder.

The system can run well on screens of all sizes, including tablet, phone, and of course desktop. As purchase orders made through the online store are automatically emailed to the admin, orders are fulfilled in real time.

Remove and Add Inventory Items

Vend lets you remove, add, and edit inventory items easily. Owners can add images of products and keep track of stock levels and any special prices, costs, or taxes on certain products. You can set prices differently based on customer location or type or by creating special discounts and promotions.

This POS system can print, import, and create barcode labels for easier inventory management.

If there’s a particular product you want to promote, you’ll find the following feature very helpful – any item can have an individualized loyalty earning that overrides the default ratio of money spent to money earned. Vend also offers a purchase order management feature.

Hardware Requirements

One limitation of Vend is that it cannot run on any browser except Google Chrome. Your hardware needs to be able to run at least Windows 7 or Mac OS X 10.5 to use it.

Vend’s three all-in-one POS packages are Mac, PC, and iPad. Users can also get Star’s all-in-one mobile point of purchase (mPOP) receipt printer and cash drawer.

Reduce Losses

Vend can help you reduce loss by human error because it tracks your staff’s cash management.

To track employee performance, you can also switch users between transactions. With Vend, you can receive daily reports to double-check your totals.

Multiple Price Books

This POS system can maintain multiple price books, which can be used in several different ways.

Separate price books can be maintained based on a specific group of customers or on the store location. They can also be adjusted based on time.

If you want to have a Friday sale, for example, you just need to set the timeframe during which the new prices will be active, create a copy of your default price book, and apply discounts across the board.

Alternatively, you can apply separate discounts for different products. The default prices are then replaced. Regular pricing is restored after the sale ends.

iPad App

Vend’s app Vend Register is optimized for iPads. It can streamline and process sales quickly and includes on-account sales, layaways, and loyalty programs. It also has easily customizable quick keys.

Gift Cards

This is one of the newest features, making it possible for a store to create its own branded gift cards, increase its payment options, and avoid issuing refunds by offering store credit.

Looking Up Data

It’s very easy to look up customer data if you want to track balances and payment history. Transactions like parking sales and adding store credit are simple to process along with more basic functions like returns and split payments.

Reliable & Solid Platform

Vend is great for small retailers, but also major franchises and everything in between depending on the plan you get. There is no limit to the number of stores a client can have – it is appropriate for big and small. The free version is for very small businesses only, like farmer’s market retailers.

Vend is a reliable, solid, flexible, and versatile solution for retail establishments of all sizes. It offers user-friendly packages to accommodate almost every type of business with the possible exception of the food service industry.

We find the lack of item modifiers for table management and tipping to be something of a disadvantage, but Vend has added some features to make the POS functional for cafes and other simple food distributors. Below is some info about them.

User Friendly

The free trial offers a free tour of the system. Each category has the added convenience of being linked to the relevant page in the dashboard for configuration. The system walks you through the processes of customizing the register quick keys, adding products and customers, setting up taxes, and more. This is a great way to become familiar with it. It’s all self-explanatory thanks to the highly intuitive software.

Vend’s eCommerce feature was pretty decent to begin with and keeps improving. It takes only several minutes to set up an online store presence. Among the many great features of the eCommerce platform is the option to edit HTML and CSS directly.

It becomes easy to manage products and customers even across multiple locations once your store is up and running, though it does require a few more mouse clicks than some other POS systems.

Pricing

All offerings come with a free 30-day trial, which is limited to 200 products. Vend’s limited free plan is an excellent choice for very small retailers. You don’t have to sign a contract up front and your subscription is paid each month by credit card, unlike with most other web-based POS services.

If you pay for one year in advance, you get a discount on the monthly price for all but the starter plan.

With the first plan, Premium Support is available. You can also have it with the Advanced plan for an additional fee. This plan includes ongoing training, personal set-up assistance, and phone support. You could opt for Vend’s Enterprise plan for a more personalized option.

Your web browser must be HTML5 compatible. Power outages aren’t a problem because the data is saved in the cache, which runs things locally. Sales re-sync automatically when you come back online.

Our Last Word on Vend

Vend offers you all the benefits of the cloud and you can open it up and feel at ease at once. This POS is a great choice for retailers looking to switch theirs because its software is very easy to learn and use. It doesn’t have the rich functionality of some other retail POS systems, but it’s a great choice for medium sized enterprises, which might not need in-depth analyses. Its affordability is also a distinct advantage.
